START OF HANDS-ON TRAINING AT PTC AVIATION – PHILIPPINES FOR STUDENTS FROM VIETNAM AVIATION ACADEMY
Following the online Phase 1, from September 15 to 20, the delegation of students from the Faculty of Foreign Languages – Vietnam Aviation Academy (VAA) officially embarked on Phase 2 of the Blended Aviation Professional Skills & Communication Training (BFAOP) program at PTC Aviation Training Center (Parañaque, Manila, Philippines).
Upon arrival at PTC Aviation, faculty members and students from Vietnam Aviation Academy were warmly welcomed in a distinctly Filipino atmosphere. Mr. Dino Santos, General Manager of PTC Aviation, personally greeted the delegation, introduced each instructor, and expressed pride that every member of the training team at the center has over 10 years of experience in aviation, having worked with both domestic and international airlines. After the introductions, students from the academy also took turns presenting themselves, creating an sense of connection between the two sides.
The welcoming event was made even more special with traditional Filipino dishes such as adobo, pancit, and kakanin, which not only offered local flavors but also served as a cultural bridge for Vietnamese students.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, representatives of both institutions coincidentally wore the traditional attire of Vietnam and the Philippines, creating a friendly and engaging cultural exchange.
The day before the training began, the delegation had the opportunity to visit several notable landmarks in the Philippines: the National Museum of Anthropology, the National Museum of Fine Arts, Casa Manila Museum (depicting life under Spanish rule), and Fort Santiago at Intramuros. These experiences enriched students’ cultural knowledge and boosted their enthusiasm for the training sessions ahead.
On the first training day (September 15), at PTC’s training facility, after orientation, the program quickly moved into the core content:
-
Safety & Emergency Procedures 1: Ms. Ria Ama and Mr. Joel Tuquib guided students through essential safety protocols and basic in-flight emergency procedures.
Students not only learned about handling emergencies, from scene assessment and contacting the cockpit to retrieving medical kits, but also practiced basic first aid. The highlight of the session was when students performed Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and were introduced to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), transforming the lesson from abstract theory into a memorable hands-on experience.
On the second day (September 16), the program continued with Safety & Emergency Procedures 2, including:
-
Safety Demonstration: Ms. Ria Ama and Ms. Jenneth Soller guided students deeper into safety and emergency protocols central to the cabin crew role.
Students practiced using and loudly calling out emergency commands such as “Bend over, stay down”, “Open seatbelt”, “Come this way”, and “Jump, jump”. Another key activity was practicing aircraft door operation, a vital skill for both routine operations and emergencies.
-
Slide Drills: The highlight of the day was the evacuation slide drill. This activity provided students with an unforgettable real-world experience that strengthened their calmness and agility in emergency scenarios.
The second day also extended beyond PTC’s facilities, as the delegation visited the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), a long-time partner of the center. Here, VAA students explored facilities related to aviation and tourism, gained insights into the academic environment, and broadened their perspectives on international education.
From the third day onward, the program will expand to include even more diverse and challenging content: professional posture and demeanor, mock interviews, advanced emergency handling, simulated in-flight service, and intensive training in firefighting and survival swimming at The MAST in Maragondon, Cavite. Phase 2 will conclude with a comprehensive evaluation and a certificate ceremony—marking a significant milestone in the journey of students from the Faculty of Foreign Languages – Vietnam Aviation Academy.
