Aviation Safety Symposium
This morning, February 21, 2023, in room 301, a symposium on Aviation Safety took place. The workshop was organized by the Department of Aeronautical Economics (under the Faculty of Aeronautical Economics of the Vietnam Aviation Academy).

Symposium on Aviation Safety attracts the participation of a large number of lecturers, students, and businesses
Attending the seminar were Dr. Nguyen Thi Hai Hang – Director of the Vietnam Aviation Academy, Dr. Nguyen Thu Hang – Head of the Faculty of Aviation Economics, Dr. Tran Thi Thai Binh – Head of Aviation Economics Department along with lecturers and students of the Academy. The workshop with the presentation of the speaker – Dr. Vuong Thanh Huyen is currently an IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA Auditor). She has 27 years of experience in the international aviation industry, including 11 years working for IATA Audit Programs including: IOSA, ISAGO and IEnvA and 16 years working in the field of safety and quality management and development training in ground operations with two national airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Qantas Airways.

In addition, Dr. Vuong Thanh Huyen is an alumnus of the Vietnam Aviation Academy, then she received her PhD in Organizational Psychology in Aviation from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Victoria (Australia) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland (Australia).
At the workshop, Dr. Vuong Thanh Huyen introduced the Aviation Safety System and presented 2 important contents, including: Safety Management System according to the ICAO Framework (ICAO SMS) and Safety Assessment in Aviation Operation according to the new model (Risk-based IOSA).
In part 1, the author analyzes the assessment and management of risks in aviation activities according to ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), types of hazards, models of hazard identification and risk assessment according to the matrix, risk index and tolerance, etc.

In part 2, Dr. Vuong Thanh Huyen introduced the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) Safety Assessment program. This is the IATA Operational Safety Assessment Program, including a system of standards, regulations and procedures according to international standards, to assess the capacity of the control and management system of airlines, thereby controlling the possibility of aircraft accidents. Starting from 2025, IOSA will implement the implementation of safety assessments in aviation operations according to the new model.

The seminar is a good opportunity for lecturers, students, and businesses to directly exchange and share knowledge and experience gained in the process of implementing a safety management system – one of the key tasks of airlines as well as stakeholders.

On this occasion, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hai Hang also expressed her gratitude to Dr. Vuong Thanh Huyen took the time to present and share experiences at the Academy, this knowledge is very useful for lecturers and students of the school. The Director of the Academy also hopes that the Academy will become a place to connect and share knowledge of scientists and leading experts in the field of aviation. Thereby, contributing to promoting Vietnam’s aviation industry to reach out to the world.
