Lecturer of Vietnam Aviation Academy studying laminar flow around two elliptical solids
Dr. Nguyen Van Luc (Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering – Vietnam Aviation Academy) and his colleagues have conducted a study on laminar flow around two elliptic solid cylinders. The results of this study can be applied to the teaching of the subjects “Hydromechanics” and “Hydroaerodynamics” to improve the quality of training.
Flow through objects is widely observed in engineering applications such as flow through buildings in civil engineering, flow through ships, cars, aircraft in transportation engineering, flow through the legs of offshore floating structures or flow through plate or cylindrical heat transfer devices. “Understanding the characteristics of this flow is practical in improving their performance, reducing the damage caused by fatigue during operation”, said Dr. Nguyen Van Luc.
The group studied the flow through two elliptical cylinders placed at different angles and distances. The results of this study shed light on the hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow, the interaction and interference between the vortices formed after the two elliptical cylinders. This result will be a reference for the design of structures such as offshore structures, heat exchangers or equipment related to this flow.
