First International UAV Research and Design Competition Takes Off with a Bang!
This morning, November 21, 2024, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) hosted the exciting opening ceremony of the first International Competition on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Research and Design. The competition is co-founded and organized by TDTU in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), Vietnam Aviation Academy, Ostrava University, and Tomas Bata University.
The event has attracted the participation of a large number of students, trainees, and researchers from universities both domestically and internationally. This is an opportunity for young people who are passionate about technology to demonstrate their talents, creativity, and skills in designing and manufacturing UAVs.
The opening ceremony featured vibrant drumming and aerobic performances by students from Ton Duc Thang University.
The Vietnam Aviation Academy sent two teams to compete: VAERO and PHANTOM PILOTS. VAERO comprises students from the Faculty of Information Technology and Electronics – Electronics, while PHANTOM PILOTS consists of students from the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering. The Academy’s two drone teams showcased drones designed with UWB technology and image recognition technology.
Immediately following the opening ceremony, a conference of the founding universities’ rectors was held to reach a consensus on the scale, venue, and hosting institution for the 2025 International Drone Competition. During this conference, the co-founding universities identified joint research directions on drones for agricultural applications and agreed to co-organize a scientific conference in this field in 2025.
The competition spans two days, November 21st and 22nd, 2024, and features a series of engaging activities, including preliminary rounds, semi-finals, finals, and an award ceremony. The participating teams will face challenging tasks that demand a seamless blend of specialized knowledge, practical skills, and teamwork.
With meticulous preparation and an international scope, the competition promises to deliver thrilling and engaging contests. It marks a significant step towards the robust development of UAV research and design in Vietnam.
