Artificial Intelligence of Things – AIoT
In the era of Industry 4.0, also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, significant changes are being made to human life and employment. These transformative advancements are driven by technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), Blockchain, 3D Printing, Automation and Robotics, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), and more. Among the technologies contributing to Industry 4.0, the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is regarded as one of the most prominent. So, what exactly is AIoT, and why does it play such a critical role? This article provides an overview of AIoT and highlights AIoT applications developed by students from the Faculty of Information Technology at the Vietnam Aviation Academy.
Overview of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT)
AIoT stands for Artificial Intelligence of Things, a term referring to the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT). AIoT combines these two technologies to achieve better operational efficiency, improve the interaction between humans and machines, and enhance management capabilities while optimizing data analysis systems.
The core operating principle of AIoT systems is that AI autonomously sets goals and continuously learns from experiments or historical data. This allows the system to identify the most optimal and efficient methods to accomplish its objectives.
Currently, AIoT is undergoing rapid development, with several key trends emerging, such as:
- Enhancing automated recognition and data analysis,
- Applications in industrial sectors,
- Strengthening security and privacy,
- Developing intelligent IoT systems,
- Improving connectivity among devices, and more.
AIoT Applications by Students of the Faculty of Information Technology, Vietnam Aviation Academy
With the rapid development of AIoT, along with the encouragement and support from the Faculty of Information Technology lecturers and the leadership of the Vietnam Aviation Academy, students from the Faculty of Information Technology have successfully researched and developed several AIoT applications as follows:
1. An intelligent system to assist passengers at airports
The intelligent system to assist passengers at the airport uses LLM artificial intelligence technology to recognize text and voice from passengers and analyze data. The system is programmed with NodeJS and Python, running on the Era IoT Platform. The main device of the system is the Asus Tinker Board. This system reached the finals and won the “Potential Award” in the “IoT Innovation – NTTU 2024” competition.
2. The smart wristband for drowning detection with a machine learning model.
The smart wristband for drowning detection is set up using a deep learning model, specifically a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) in AI to train the data. The machine learning model, once trained, is embedded into the Tinker Board to predict the current state by receiving sensor data from the wristband of the person swimming in real-time. When a drowning situation is detected, the Tinker Board will activate a flashing LED and send a wireless alert signal to the monitoring system. This product is currently in the experimental stage in the lab, and in the future, the team plans to develop it for real-world testing. The smart wristband product is the result of a research project conducted by students from the Faculty of Information Technology at the Vietnam Aviation Academy.
In the near future, the Faculty of Information Technology at the Vietnam Aviation Academy will strive to apply Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) to develop more AIoT systems that support teaching and learning.
