THIRD MOCK INTERPRETING WORKSHOP 2025: BRIDGING TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL INTERPRETING PRACTICE
Based on the Mock Conference model inspired by UNESCO, on the afternoon of 11 November 2025, the Faculty of Foreign Languages – Vietnam Aviation Academy successfully organized the workshop “Third Mock Interpreting Workshop 2025” at Room A301, Campus 1.

The workshop was a key academic activity within the Graduation Internship course, aiming to provide final-year English Language students with opportunities to engage in realistic interpreting practice in a professionally simulated academic environment. Designed as the final stage of the Professional Practice component, the workshop followed a three-stage structure closely aligned with professional interpreting workflows.
During the mock conference, students performed bidirectional consecutive interpreting (English–Vietnamese and Vietnamese–English) directly from the speakers’ presentations. Each group took turns assuming the role of interpreters according to prior assignment, while receiving detailed feedback and assessment from supervising lecturers. The interpreting performance served as a basis for grading the Graduation Internship course.

The workshop was spearheaded by Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Diep, Head of the Organizing Committee, along with lecturers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages. In her opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Diep emphasized the importance of mock interpreting activities in helping students connect academic knowledge with the practical demands of the interpreting profession, while also acknowledging the serious preparation and professional attitude demonstrated by both students and lecturers.
Notably, the workshop was honored to welcome two invited speakers from specialized faculties of the Academy:
Presentation Session 1
Turbulent cascade via the oblique collision of a vortex ring with a vortex tube
Speaker: Dr. Nguyen Van Luc – Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering
This English-language scientific presentation, situated in the field of Aeronautical Engineering, focused on analyzing the mechanisms of turbulent flow development and vortex reconnection phenomena under different conditions. Students carried out live English–Vietnamese interpreting, rotating according to sections of the presentation.

Presentation Session 2
Addressing workability issue and performance of CO₂-mixed cement pastes
Speaker: Dr. Pham Ba Tung – Faculty of Civil Engineering
This English-language scientific report explored solutions involving CO₂ mixing in cement pastes to improve workability and CO₂ absorption capacity. Students continued to perform English-Vietnamese interpreting, flexibly applying linguistic competence and specialized terminology.

The “Third Mock Interpreting Workshop 2025” not only enhanced students’ language reflexes, specialized terminology handling, and professional demeanor, but also contributed to shaping a clearer understanding of their future career paths in translation and interpreting after graduation.
The workshop concluded in a serious yet dynamic academic atmosphere and was highly appreciated for its practical relevance, professional depth, and applicability, further affirming the Faculty of Foreign Languages’ commitment to practice-oriented training at Vietnam Aviation Academy.
