We wanted to build a real product that solves real problems for real users
Rather than pursuing a research topic solely for academic purposes, Trần Thành Phát and his teammates, Lý Trí Dũng and Nguyễn Điền Trí Minh, students of the Faculty of Information Technology, set out to develop a dedicated website for their Faculty at the Vietnam Aviation Academy.
“At the time we began the project, the Faculty of Information Technology did not have its own information portal. We asked ourselves: why not apply what we have learned to build a product that could bring real value to both the Faculty and its students?” Phát recalled.

Under the supervision of lecturer Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thanh, the team did more than build a simple website; they addressed a real-world challenge involving communication, connectivity, and digital transformation within a university environment.
What made the project truly distinctive was that the product did not end as a written report or a thesis defense presentation. To achieve that, the team had to overcome significant challenges—from designing a database capable of handling thousands of pieces of content, developing a content management system, to optimizing the user interface so that users could easily access information. *“We realized that writing a program is one thing, but creating a product that people want to use every day is something entirely different. Through this project, Phát believes that today’s Information Technology students are not merely learning how to code; they can become active contributors to the digital transformation efforts of both educational institutions and businesses.
“Digital transformation is not something distant or unattainable. Even while still at university, students can help solve real-world challenges using their knowledge, skills, and creativity.”
What began as an idea inspired by the needs of the Faculty has evolved into a tangible example of VAA’s learning environment—one where students are encouraged to learn by doing, gain hands-on experience, and create real-world products with practical impact.
For many young people passionate about technology, this may be the most appealing aspect of university life: it is not only a place to learn how to write code, but also a place to build meaningful solutions that benefit the community from day one. By transforming ideas into practical applications, students can see firsthand how their work creates value and makes a difference.
