Seminar “Sustainable Aviation and Airline Business Transformation: Economics, Competition, and Commercial Service”

On 21 July 2026, the Faculty of Air Transport Economics, in collaboration with the Faculty Of Tourism And Aviation Services and the Faculty of Business Administration at Vietnam Aviation Academy, successfully organized the Seminar entitled “Sustainable Aviation and Airline Business Transformation: Economics, Competition, and Commercial Service” The Seminar served as a meaningful academic forum, attracting the participation of numerous researchers, lecturers, and students of Vietnam Aviation Academy. It provided an opportunity to exchange insights on emerging trends in sustainable development and business model transformation within the aviation industry.

The Seminar was honored to feature a presentation by Prof. Dr. Frank Fichert from Worms University of Applied Sciences. The speaker offered in-depth perspectives on both the challenges and opportunities facing the aviation industry amid the accelerating global transition towards sustainability.

The Seminar was structured into three thematic sessions, each focusing on a key aspect of the aviation industry.

In Session 1, entitled “The Economics of Sustainable Aviation: From Fuel Cost to Carbon Cost,” the speaker analyzed the changing cost structure of the aviation industry as sustainable development has increasingly become a strategic priority. In addition to traditional fuel costs, carbon-related costs are exerting a significant influence on airline operations. The presentation enabled participants to gain a clearer understanding of changes in the business environment as well as the economic factors shaping the future development strategies of airlines.

Following this, Session 2, entitled “Green Competition: Can Sustainability Become an Airline Advantage?”, explored the relationship between sustainable development and the competitiveness of airline businesses. The speaker shared insights into how green development strategies not only address environmental requirements but can also become a competitive advantage, enhancing brand image and creating distinctive value in an increasingly competitive aviation market.

In Session 3, entitled “Sustainable Cabin Service and Greener Inflight Experience,” the Seminar focused on solutions for developing environmentally friendly onboard service experiences. The presentation provided valuable perspectives on the trend towards sustainable aviation services while highlighting the role of service quality in enhancing the passenger experience and contributing to the achievement of the industry’s sustainable development goals.

Following the three thematic sessions, the Seminar continued with an interactive discussion between the speaker and participating researchers, lecturers, and students. Numerous questions, opinions, and perspectives were exchanged on practical issues facing the aviation industry, ranging from sustainable development trends and business strategies to the impact of the green transition on education and human resource development. The open and engaging discussions enriched the Seminar’s academic value while encouraging participants to proactively explore issues of global significance.

Discussion and Q&A Session Following the Three Thematic Sessions

The enthusiastic participation of lecturers, researchers, and students reflected the growing interest in sustainable development within the aviation sector. The Seminar not only provided an opportunity to update professional knowledge but also strengthened the connection between education, scientific research, and industry practice, thereby laying the foundation for participants to develop a global mindset and keep pace with emerging international trends.

The Seminar “Sustainable Aviation and Airline Business Transformation: Economics, Competition, and Commercial Service” concluded successfully, leaving participants with valuable academic insights and practical perspectives on the transformation of the aviation industry in the context of sustainable development. Through this event, the Faculty of Air Transport Economics reaffirmed its commitment to organizing high-quality academic activities, expanding collaboration with international experts, and creating opportunities for lecturers and students to access new knowledge, thereby contributing to the enhancement of educational quality and meeting the evolving demands of the aviation industry in the era of global integration.
