International Scientific Conference: “Trends in Aviation Infrastructure Research and Cooperation Opportunities in France”
On the afternoon of April 15, 2026, at Campus 2 of the Vietnam Aviation Academy (VAA), the Faculty of Civil Engineering successfully organized an international scientific conference themed: “Trends in Aviation Infrastructure Research and Opportunities for Cooperation and Education in France.”
The event drew significant interest and participation from a large number of students, researchers, and alumni. In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Phi Long – Head of the Faculty of Civil Engineering – emphasized the importance of international integration, the continuous adoption of new construction technologies, and the goal of developing advanced high-tech infrastructure projects in Vietnam.

A key highlight of the conference was the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Xuan Hong, a senior research expert from Lyon 1 University (France). He provided a comprehensive overview of the world-class academic environment in France while detailing advanced research projects at the Laboratory for Composite Materials and Structures (LMC2). Beyond academic insights, Professor Hong also offered guidance on scholarship opportunities, study abroad programs, and specialized research pathways in France for VAA students.

The workshop also featured highly practical presentations, reflecting the core academic values of the Faculty of Civil Engineering:
- Dr. Nguyen Huu Huy presented on “Reducing and Preventing Runway Intrusion.” His report analyzed spatial planning processes and proposed safety solutions for infrastructure that currently falls short of ICAO thickness standards.
- Embracing the “Green Airport” trend, Dr. Pham Ba Tung discussed “Environmentally friendly materials aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the industry.” This is also a strategic research direction for the landscape architecture and construction programs.

Notably, the workshop served as both a forum for experts and an academic playground for VAA students. Nguyen Truc Lina, a final-year Civil Engineering student, received high praise from the panel for her report on “Fire Simulation Analysis at Tan Son Nhat Terminal.” By utilizing modern simulation software, Lina demonstrated the high quality of practical training and the impressive research capabilities of VAA students.
The enthusiastic support from the faculty and the active engagement of the students were key factors in the event’s success.
Concluding after two hours of intensive discussion, the workshop not only updated the latest technological trends in aviation but also marked a significant milestone in establishing international cooperation between the Faculty of Civil Engineering (VAA) and Lyon 1 University (France). We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Xuan Hong, as well as all faculty members and students, for contributing to such a successful and energetic event.
