THE DISPATCHER’S PERSPECTIVE: BRIDGING OPERATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL THINKING IN AVIATION
In the aviation industry, making the right decision requires more than speed. Every decision must be informed by data, operational experience, and comprehensive analysis.
When an aircraft takes off, the safety and efficiency of the flight are not determined solely in the cockpit. Behind every journey lies a complex operational system in which information, data, forecasts, risk assessments, and decision-making capabilities are continuously integrated to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
Within this system, the Flight Dispatcher plays a particularly important role. How does a Flight Dispatcher view a flight? How can operational data be transformed into valuable information for decision-making? More importantly, how are operational thinking and analytical thinking connected in an aviation environment where every decision can directly affect safety, operational efficiency, and the ability to respond to uncertainty?
These questions will be explored at the AVIATION MANAGEMENT Workshop under the theme:
“THE DISPATCHER’S PERSPECTIVE: BRIDGING OPERATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL THINKING IN AVIATION”
The Workshop is honored to welcome Guest Speaker Vo Hoang Bao – Flight Dispatcher at the Flight Operations Control Center, Vietnam Airlines.
With professional experience in flight dispatch, operational control, and digital transformation in flight operations, Mr. Vo Hoang Bao has directly contributed to projects involving flight monitoring, hazardous weather warnings, and operational decision support.
Drawing on his professional experience, he has developed a strong interest in applying digital technologies, data, and analytical thinking to enhance operational awareness, decision-making, and organizational resilience in highly complex aviation environments.
In addition to his professional work, the Guest Speaker is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the National Economics University. His research has been published in leading international journals in air transport, safety, and transportation management, including the Journal of Air Transport Management, Safety Science, and Research in Transportation Business & Management.
His research focuses particularly on leadership, aviation safety, and safety-related behavior. This approach examines aviation safety not only from technological and procedural perspectives but also through human and organizational factors—fundamental components of safe and sustainable operations.
WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE AT THE WORKSHOP
01 | THE DISPATCHER’S PERSPECTIVE
Gain a clearer understanding of the Flight Dispatcher’s role within flight operations and operational control systems, providing a practical view of the activities taking place behind every flight.
02 | OPERATIONAL THINKING
Explore how aviation operations professionals approach real-world situations, assess relevant factors, and make decisions under time and resource constraints.
03 | ANALYTICAL THINKING
Learn how data, information, and analytical tools are used to enhance situational awareness, anticipate risks, and support decision-making.
04 | BRIDGING THE TWO PERSPECTIVES
Most importantly, the Workshop will provide insight into the integration of operational and analytical thinking—an increasingly essential capability for aviation professionals in the era of digital transformation and intelligent aviation operations.
FROM THE CLASSROOM TO AVIATION PRACTICE
For students, particularly those pursuing Aviation Management, Air Transport, Aviation Operations, Logistics, Aviation Safety, Digital Business, and Data Analytics, the Workshop offers an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with the realities of aviation careers.
In a highly systematic and safety-critical industry such as aviation, professional capability extends beyond simply “knowing the procedures.” It also requires the ability to understand systems, interpret data, identify problems, assess risks, and make appropriate decisions in real-world situations.
This is also the spirit of the AVIATION MANAGEMENT Workshop:
From operational awareness to analytical insight.
From data to decisions.
From classroom knowledge to aviation practice.
